FFWPU-UK Mobilises Aid for Lebanon Amid Escalating Middle East Conflict
As violence intensifies in the Middle East, families in Lebanon are facing growing hardship. FFWPU-UK is stepping up to provide relief, focusing on helping displaced families and supporting local efforts to offer essential aid.
According to Rev. Jongin and Yola P., FFWPU Lebanon National Leaders, thousands of families have been displaced, and many schools in Beirut are now serving as shelters for the homeless. FFWPU’s centre in Beirut has already taken in families fleeing the conflict, and more are expected to arrive.
In response to this crisis, young volunteers in Lebanon are eager to help, despite the fear and uncertainty. They plan to distribute much-needed food, clothing, and supplies to those affected. However, resources are limited, and the community is calling for international support to meet the growing demand.
FFWPU-UK’s Regional President, Michael Balcomb, is urging communities in Europe and beyond to contribute to these relief efforts. “We’ve seen the spirit of giving before—after the Beirut explosion and the earthquake in Turkey in 2023. Now, we’re asking for the same generosity,” Dr Balcomb said.
At a local level within our community, even young children have organised a bake sale to raise funds for Lebanon, showing that every contribution counts. Additionally, Youth and Students for Peace UK (also known as YSP, a sister organisation of FFWPU) members have organised a sponsored walk to raise funds for essential supplies like baby formula, wipes, blankets, and food. Led by Sophia N., who volunteered in Beirut last year, the team aims to symbolically "embrace" Lebanon with a collective 56km walk.
You can still support the YSP Initiative by donating to the GoFundMe.
